Pancakes!

Pancake Day (also known as Shrove Tuesday) is the last day before what Christians call Lent.

It's a time of celebration, to spoil yourself before Lent (a time of giving things up and being sorry).

We learnt from our friends in Rebstein, Switzerland that they have a village carnival where they dress up, eat special food and listen to music. LINK: http://bit.ly/y817MH

In England we eat pancakes!

What is a pancake? It's a very thin, flat cake made of batter and fried in a pan. It uses up all the foods that traditionally you should not eat in Lent. The problem comes when you cook both sides as you will see!

In some towns and villages there are pancake races where people run down the street, tossing their pancakes as they go.
